God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.
So don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters. Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession. (James 1:12-18)
Hola mis amores! God bless you today!
I am so excited to be back with another section of James, and sharing with YOU what God has been placing on MY heart through bible study this week!
Hardship will come, but We will receive our crown
There will be times of hardship and temptations for those of us who choose to follow Jesus. I remember many times over my walk where I felt as though my temptations to do things that I know the Lord does not want me to do, like not caring for my physical health, working excessively, ignoring God’s call to spend time with Him, were tests from Him. But here, James breaks it all down and tells us that God truly doesn’t tempt us.
Our temptations to live a life other than the one that God desires us to live is truly from ourselves, our own desires, our own humanness.
God, unlike our flesh, desires for us to live in a way that pleases Him because living righteously truly is the best way to live! Living in accordance to God’s will for our lives, not in sin but seeking Him wholeheartedly and in service to Him and others, is unselfish and filled with worship! But the reality is, because of the sin that is in us, we have desires that want to go the opposite way of where God wants us to be.
New Identity, Good Grace
So yes, though we have the reality of temptation and desires that don’t align with God’s and are not from God, we still are constantly being given the grace to overcome those temptations. For those of us ladies who received the Gospel that says that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and rose three days later for the salvation of those who believe in Him, we are given a new birth and empowered to live a new life!
Running after our Crown
So mi amor, where do you feel you are being tempted this week to live in a way that is not God’s best for you and doesn’t lead to life? I know that you desire to seek God, and I want to encourage you that even when you are tempted to do what you know doesn’t align with who you are now and God’s desires, you are fully capable of living God’s way. For me, this season, it looks like working hard and not spending time with God that I know that I need.
So as we pick up our cross and walk after that reward, that wonderful crown of LIFE, let’s remember God’s heart for giving us boundaries and instruction, which is to keep us from all of the things that hurt us and lead to death.
